End-of-Life Care for Cats and Dogs

Pets need special care when they approach the end of their lives, and we need special help when we grieve for them. Grief can begin before a pet actually dies, as we prepare for the loss. Pets can also grieve. See below for more information and resources.

Hospice

If your pet has been diagnosed with a terminal disease and further care is not possible or would not be helpful, you, your pet and your family might benefit from hospice care.

• Humane Society's Pet Loss Support Group - This group meets for free every week and can help you with the grief associated with the loss of your dear friend.
  
  
• Cornell University's Pet Loss Support Hotline - This support hotline is staffed by volunteer veterinary students who have undergone extensive training with professional grief counselors.
