Routine Professional Dental Cleanings Under Anesthesia
For a tartar or gingivitis score of 2 or greater, anesthesia is required to clean the teeth.
Anesthetic dentistry at Broadway Veterinary Hospital includes:
- Pre-anesthetic blood testing to help us understand whether your pet’s vital organs are functioning properly, which can help us create an individualized anesthetic plan for your pet and avoid potential complications during anesthesia.

- Pre-anesthetic medications help to reduce stress & pain.
- Placement of an IV Catheter: By placing an intravenous catheter (IV) and line before anesthesia, your veterinarian can ensure that this lifeline is already in place, should the need arise. Anesthetics, fluids and emergency drugs can be administered through the IV line. Intravenous fluids help maintain blood pressure in the anesthetized patient.
- Warming measures to help maintain body temperature.
- Veterinary Assistant dedicated to monitor anesthesia for your pet.
- Post anesthetic pain medication.
- Up to 3 x-rays if indicated
Extractions:
Depending on the severity of problems un discoverable until your pet is under anesthesia, one or more extractions may be indicated. As anesthesia time increases the risk of complications also increases, so we limit our patients anesthesia time to 2 hours. If it is determined that additional work will be needed an estimate will be provided at discharge.
